After a decade of operation, TorrentHound announced today to TF that it is shutting down with a single word: “Finito”
TorrentHound leaves behind millions of monthly visitors, although it has never managed to reach the level of the giants of the genre: The Pirate Bay, Torrentz and KickAss Torrents.
So three of the biggest torrent sites have gone down in recent months. The Pirate Bay seems to be more resilient, but KickAss Torrents and Torrentz have succumbed to the pressure.
Although TorrentHound was smaller, it couldn't avoid complaints from copyright holders. The problem started with the website being blocked in several countries, although it always found a way to stay online. Until today.
TorrentFreak concludes that the website's shutdown was due to ongoing pressure from the US Department of Justice.
Shortly afterwards, however, the founder of the TorrentHound website contacted TF and announced to explain the site's shutdown:
“It’s a combination of low traffic, low revenue, and our bills (expenses) piling up. Then add in the ever-increasing anti-piracy factors, it just wasn’t worth the headache anymore.”
