BlackBerry has acquired mobile security company Good Technology for $425 million. The deal was unexpected, as the two companies have had a history of verbal spats.

BlackBerry is reportedly focusing more on mobile security, as evidenced by its acquisition of Good Technology, which is solely focused on that industry.
“Some people may not realize it, but BlackBerry and Good Technology both have a tradition in mobile security for more than a decade,” BlackBerry CEO Marty Beard explained in a Q&A.
“Our industry is highly competitive and constantly evolving, so it’s no surprise that we’ve taken some aggressive positions in recent years. If you look closely, you’ll see that we share a common heritage in security and our strengths complement each other extremely well.”
BlackBerry sees the future in this deal, which is a clear sign that it is investing in security. Good Technology supports more than 6,000 customers including banks, aerospace companies, healthcare services, defense companies, and many others.
BlackBerry, immediately after announcing the acquisition of Good Technology, saw its share price rise by almost 5%.
