YouTube is shutting down its “Trending” page, nearly a decade after it debuted. The page and “Trending Now” list will be removed from all platforms later this month, and the company is encouraging users to discover popular videos through thematic “YouTube Charts” lists.

The change was announced in a recent post on YouTube’s community forums, with the company attributing the decision to a steady decline in traffic to its “Trending” page over the past five years. As noted, users are now discovering trends across multiple parts of the platform, including recommendations, suggested searches, Shorts, comments, and communities. As a result, YouTube is “moving away from a single Trending list and toward thematic lists.”
Currently, YouTube Charts offers lists of the most popular content in certain categories, such as music videos, podcasts and movie trailers. YouTube plans to add more categories over time. In the meantime, it encourages viewers to rely on personalized recommendations or visit the “ Gaming Explore ” page to discover popular gaming videos. Users can also continue to browse non-personalized content through the “ Explore ” menu , creator channels and their subscriptions feed

YouTube is also encouraging creators who have been relying on the “Trending” page for video ideas to use the “Inspiration” tab in YouTube Studio. This tab offers personalized video suggestions based on what’s popular with the creator’s audience.

The support page for the Trending feature states that the page will be removed on July 21, 2025. At this time, YouTube has not revealed what new chart categories are in development or when they will be available to users.

A related conclusion from the above developments is that YouTube is adapting to the new habits of its users and shifting the emphasis from generalized trending lists to more targeted, thematic content discoveries. This shows that the platform is now placing greater emphasis on personalization and differentiation according to the interests of each user, which is also reflected in the changes to the recommendation algorithm and in the YouTube Studio features for creators.
