YouTube is constantly finding new ways to show us ads. Whether it’s skippable, non-skippable, mid-roll, or short spots, the goal is always the same: find more spots for more revenue. And now, thanks to artificial intelligence, YouTube has found a brand new spot to “sit” ads — right when something exciting is happening in a video.

That's the idea behind a new ad product called "Peak Points," which is powered by Google Gemini. Artificial intelligence identifies the most exciting or emotionally charged moments in popular YouTube videos and serves ads right there. Yes, the moment the video gets to the good stuff, an ad will be waiting to interrupt your experience.

If you're an advertiser, this might seem like a great idea. But for viewers, it's about the worst possible timing. YouTube even shows an example where the ad appears right after a marriage proposal in a video. Because, apparently, what we've been missing is even more ads—especially ones designed to ruin the best moments. It remains unclear whether these "Peak Point" ads will be able to be bypassed or not. We'll probably find out... the hard way.

Of course, if you don't want to deal with all that, there's always YouTube Premium – the ultimate "solution" to the ad problem that YouTube created itself. So, in the end, everyone wins... except the viewer.

Based on the above, it’s clear that YouTube is gradually shifting its focus from user experience to maximizing revenue through increasingly intrusive forms of advertising. The “Peak Points” strategy signals a new era, where AI is used not to improve the viewer experience, but to identify the moments with the greatest emotional impact — and interrupt them with ads.
