Cisco files stolen by hacker IntelBroker

Cisco has confirmed that some of its files have been stolen by a hacker known as IntelBroker, who announced the breach on a cybercrime forum.

IntelBroker claimed to have obtained projects from GitHub and SonarQube, source code, credentials, certificates, confidential documents, and other sensitive information related to major companies such as Microsoft, AT&T , and Bank of America.

The hacker posted screenshots that allegedly show access to internal documents, source code and databases containing customer information. Cisco launched an investigation immediately after being notified of the allegations and said it was confident that its own systems were not compromised.

Instead, it appeared that the data came from a public DevHub environment, which is a content management platform.

Cisco stressed that a small number of files that were not authorized for public download may have been published, but so far no sensitive information such as PII or financial data has been observed.

As a precautionary measure, the company disabled access to the affected website. IntelBroker is known for targeting large companies, and many of them have confirmed data breaches. However, many victims also claimed that the impact of the incident was limited, suggesting that the hacker's claims were exaggerated.

One of the recent victims is Deloitte, which stated – after the breach was revealed – that there was no risk to sensitive data.
