Apple announced watchOS upgrades with artificial intelligence (AI) during the Apple Event 2024 on Monday.

Many of these were previously revealed at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, but Apple offered more details in its keynote this morning.
The Translate is available in the latest version of watchOS, watchOS 11. Like on other platforms, the app will leverage artificial intelligence for speech recognition and translation into many different languages.

On Series 9, Series 10, and Ultra, Translate can be used without a phone connection. Apple says these are the only Apple Watch models that have enough storage to download the necessary language models, allowing up to 20 models to be downloaded at once.
Artificial intelligence is improving Smart Stack, the watchOS that uses information about your surroundings to display relevant widgets. Soon, Smart Stack will automatically add new widgets “when you need them,” according to Apple — likely based on factors like the time of day and your location.
