According to a post on Reddit, an Apple Watch owner fell asleep and was able to view his sleep data recorded in the Healthapp without putting the device to sleep.
Currently, the Apple Watch monitors and records sleep only when it is worn during sleep, without offering support for detailed tracking.
The change is expected to allow the Apple Watch with watchOS 11 to record and include each sleep session in the Sleep section of the Health app.

Additionally, it can support automatic sleep tracking, even when the Sleep Mode feature is not enabled. Sleep tracking has long been considered a missing feature on the Apple Watch, and this new capability will be welcomed by those who supplement their regular sleep with short naps.

Apple did n't mention any changes to the app in the previews for watchOS 11. The only mention of sleep is related to the new Vitals app, which collects data about your health during sleep, aiming to provide an overall picture of your health.
