Morgan Motor Company and Pininfarina SpA have collaborated on the Barchetta, to reinterpret the timeless Morgan silhouette. The result is Midsummer, a limited edition of 50 units created to celebrate the art of coachbuilding by two of the world’s oldest coachbuilders.

A collaboration between Morgan's 115-year coachbuilding philosophy and Pininfarina's 95-year tradition of building bespoke vehicles has given us a limited edition Morgan model of 50 units, known as Midsummer. All have already been sold.

The name Midsummer was chosen because it is the peak of summer, a time that provides ideal weather conditions to enjoy an open barchetta like this one from the Morgan and Pininfarina collaboration.

The partnership arose from Morgan's desire to create limited-edition special editions based on the CX-Generation Bonded Aluminium platform, and no one has said how much it cost, but the Plus Six's base price is $115,800 (£91,488.40), although we expect the 50 customers who saw the vehicle behind closed doors and paid their deposit have committed to a much higher price.

While the Plus Six's classic lines suggest that it's also somewhat classic under the metal, nothing could be further from the truth.

The low weight of the welded aluminum frame means the Plus Six weighs just 1,145 kilograms (unladen), while the Midsummer aims to reach 1,000 kilograms when it goes into production.

Midsummer's public appearance will take place at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed, from 11 to 14 July 2024.
Consequently, the Midsummer's performance can be assessed by comparing it to the BMW M340i , which features a 369-horsepower of the same TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine used by the Midsummer and Plus Six Morgans.

The Midsummer's engine produces 335 horsepower, but the BMW M340i weighs 1,792 kilograms. Do the math and this great car takes on a slightly different aura, as it has essentially the same M-Power engine powering a car that weighs just 56% of the BMW M340i.

Production on Midsummer will begin in 2024 and wrap in 2025.
No doubt everyone clicked on this article to see the shape of the car the collaboration produced, and all 50 units have already been sold, but the bigger message from this exercise is clear. Morgan intends to produce a series of limited edition cars in the coming years, and there will be more.
