Mercedes -AMG has released a new entry-level version of the GT, which swaps the V8 engine for a four-cylinder that produces 415 horsepower with the help of an electric turbocharger. The Mercedes-AMG GT 43 also loses all-wheel drive and is available exclusively with rear-wheel drive. It also features a redesigned bodykit that distinguishes it from the more powerful versions.
Despite the lack of power, Mercedes describes it as a “versatile turning artist with exceptionally dynamic driving and abundant driving pleasure”, thanks to the lighter engine and the rear-wheel drive layout.

Under the long hood we find the “small” 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine combined with AMG’s electric gas turbine exhaust, while also featuring a 48V belt-driven hybrid drive system. The engine is exclusively mated to a 9-speed multi-clutch transmission .

The engine produces 416 hp and 500 Nm of torque, while the electric motor adds up to 13 extra horsepower. This means the AMG GT 43 has 40 more horsepower than the related SL 43 roadster, but is 53 hp weaker than the GT 53 that holds the mighty V8.

According to Mercedes, the entry-level AMG GT accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 280 km/h. It's interesting to note that the acceleration time is 0.7 seconds slower than the equally powerful but all-wheel drive Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic hot hatchback, although most owners really won't care about the comparison.
The less powerful version of the GT is visually distinguished by the different bumpers and the narrower wings

Mercedes does not want people to confuse the GT 43 with the GT 53 and 63 models that are powered by V8, ’ for that it gave it a distinct appearance. The redesigned front bumper loses the grille extension and features larger, interconnected inlets. The front and rear wings are narrower, combined with smaller side‑flow inlets. The rear bumper has a cleaner design without the vertical outlets, and quadruple round exhaust tips (instead of trapezoidal).

For those who want to give a more dynamic appearance to the exterior design, AMG offers various options for wheels that reach up to 21” inches (the standard model runs with 19” inch wheels), a fixed rear air brake and various packages that add high-gloss chrome or black color details.

Inside, the AMG GT 43 features the usual 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch touchscreen for the MBUX. The standard AMG seats are upholstered in Nappa leather, but owners can also get the optional AMG Performance bucket seats. Of course, there are even more options available through the Manufaktur personalization program.

In terms of chassis layout, the GT 43 has a narrower track compared to the GT 53 and 63 models. It comes standard with a composite brake system and steel suspension featuring five links on the front and rear axles, aluminum shock absorbers and lightweight springs. The more sophisticated AMG Ride Control suspension system is optional, as is rear-wheel drive. In addition, the AMG Dynamic Plus package adds dynamic engine mounts, an electronically controlled lock for the rear differential, an additional “Race” driving mode , active aerodynamics for the underside of the car and yellow brake calipers as in the example shown.

Mercedes -AMG is expected to bring the GT 43 to market for the 2025 model year . The four-cylinder model is expected to be more affordable compared to the V8-powered models, which start at $134,900. It should be noted that the AMG GT lineup will soon be refreshed with the addition of the top-of-the-line E Performance version that features a hybrid V8 engine with a combined output of over 800 horsepower.
