A third-party app can now record spatial video on iPhone 15 Pro models at a higher resolution than Apple.

UploadVR discovered that Spatialify can now record spatial video with HDR at 1080p at 60fps or 4K at 30fps. In contrast, Apple's built-in Camera app is limited to recording spatial video at 1080p at 30fps.

Shortly after the launch of the Apple Vision Pro headset in February in the United States, Apple released iOS 17.2, which brought the new spatial video recording format to the iPhone 15 Pro models.
Spatial videos appear as simple videos on the iPhone, but on Vision Pro they offer a stunning visual experience that is almost 3D.
Using advanced computational videography techniques and HEVC compression, spatial videos at 30 fps in 1080p resolution require approximately 130 MB of storage space for one minute of video. Therefore, it is important to consider the increased storage when capturing videos at Spatialify's high resolutions.
Spatialify debuted in November, ahead of the launch of Apple Vision Pro, when a version of the app was released. This allowed iPhone 15 Pro users running the iOS 17.2 beta to record spatial videos that could be played back on the Meta Quest 3, as well as other 3D devices and TVs.

Spatialify is available for download on the App Store for $3 (~€2.80). The app requires an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max to play spatial videos.
