The market shutdown was carried out in cooperation with authorities in the United States, Switzerland, Moldova and Ukraine. Police also managed to arrest a person in the US who is one of the administrators of the dark web market.

Kingdom Market was an English-speaking marketplace with an international reach. It launched in March 2021. Payments were made via crypto (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero, and Zcash) in an attempt to avoid detection.

According to a BKA press release , the market hosted 42,000 items for sale, 3,600 of which were from Germany . The investigation showed that the dark web marketplace Kingdom Market had tens of thousands of customer accounts and several hundred registered sellers.

While one of the administrators has been arrested, investigations are continuing to identify the others.

The arrested Alan Bill, also known as “Vend0r” or “KingdomOfficial”, is a man from Slovakia who allegedly held an administrator role on the platform and acted as a moderator for the Reddit marketplace. He was arrested on December 15, 2023.

Impact of seizure

On Dread, a darknet forum, users claiming to be members of the now-seized Kingdom Market lamented the lost money. Many had deposited crypto for future purchases.

The successful seizure of a large digital shopping mall by police, such as Kingdom Market, has significant implications for the global cybercrime. Firstly, it can disrupt existing cybercrime structures and networks, as these 'shopping malls' often act as hubs for the exchange of information, tools and services.

Second, the seizure may deter future attacks, as criminal networks may lose access to important tools and resources necessary to carry out their attacks. This may lead to a reduction in the overall number of cyberattacks worldwide.

Third, successful seizure can act as a deterrent for would-be cybercriminals. Demonstrating that authorities are capable and willing to identify and shut down these shopping malls can discourage people from engaging in such activities.

Finally, this seizure can provide authorities with important information about the operation of cybercrime networks. This can help better authorities understand the methods and tactics used by cybercriminals, allowing them to develop more effective strategies to combat cybercrime in the future.
