The Race of Chipsets: Snapdragon X Elite vs. Apple M3

In the comparative processor scene, Snapdragon X Elite and Apple M3 clash for technological dominance in laptops.

The Snapdragon X Elite was recently announced, and shortly after that, Apple introduced its first 3-nanometer chipsets for the Mac line, the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max. Both were released in the same month. Qualcomm claims that its new SoC is up to 21% faster than the M3 in multi-core performance. However, a Qualcomm spokesperson points out that the user experience will be different due to the different operating systems that the two chipsets support.

According to Geekbench 6 results posted by Digital Trends, the Snapdragon X Elite achieves a multi-core score of 15,300, while the M3 lags behind with a score of 12,154. However, Qualcomm omitted to show the Snapdragon X Elite's power limit, which is important for understanding overall performance. Every CPU has its own power limit, which allows for higher clock speeds with a corresponding increase in power consumption.

Segan advises consumers not to invest in a new laptop right now but to wait for the first wave of Snapdragon-powered laptops to hit the market. While we've seen how capable the Snapdragon X Elite is, that's only in benchmarks, where reference laptops are tested, so we'll have to wait and see how consumer machines perform when they're officially released, so stay tuned.

As we watch the competition between the Snapdragon X Elite chipsets and Apple's M3 offerings, it's important to note that this competition is far from just numbers in benchmarks. Qualcomm has managed to show that the Snapdragon X Elite offers impressive multi-core performance, claiming that it is 21% faster than the competing M3.

However, the full user experience depends on many factors, including the operating system. As we await the official launch of laptops using these processors, consumers should expect an offering that goes beyond simple benchmark numbers in order to fully judge the performance and ease of use of the new laptops.
