Xiaomi 14 will be the first phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The Xiaomi 14 will be the first series to be released with the chipset , according to the company's president, as announced at Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit 2023.

Xiaomi 14 Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

Its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13, had implemented the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.While it may initially seem expected, this year's version was announced earlier than last year's, so it seemed that it would not use Qualcomm's next-generation chip.

William Lu announced “I want to share with you that, on the 26th of this month, Xiaomi 14 will be released and this model officially uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.”.

After pausing to give the audience time to gather, William Lu went on to say that “Xiaomi and Qualcomm have a long-standing partnership, and the Xiaomi 14 is a testament to this close partnership with Qualcomm.” He further added, “This is one of the first times that a new platform and a new device are launched at the same time.”

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 offers quite a few significant upgrades over its predecessor, with William Lu boasting that it outperforms competitors in the market. The CPU features seven cores for the main functions, with a 3.3 GHz Cortex-X4 core as the main core. Five of them are Cortex-A720 performance cores, with two of them running at 3.0 GHz and the other three offering speeds up to 3.2 GHz. The last two are Cortex-A520 performance cores clocked at 2.3 GHz.

In addition to the raw specs boost, Qualcomm has invested a lot of its resources into AI with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. However, it's up to OEMs to implement many of these upgrades, and it's unclear if Xiaomi has done so. However, Qualcomm did introduce tools that included faster on-device image creation and a Video Object Eraser feature that's a lot like Google, but for video.

We also got a sneak peek at the Xiaomi 14 itself, with William Lu holding it up on stage for all to see. Details will be confirmed on October 26th when the phone is officially announced, but we expect a stunning camera experience backed by top-of-the-line Leica Summilux lenses. This will be accompanied by the usual upgrades to the display and battery. It’s shaping up to be an exciting week for Xiaomi fans.
