Opera browser adds ChatGPT and AI summarization features

Shortly after the launch of Microsoft’s GPT-4-powered chatbot in the Edge browser, Opera has now integrated generative AI chatbots from ChatGPT and ChatSonic into both desktop versions of the browser – Opera and Opera GX. This cutting-edge technology marks a new era in web browsing. Offering unprecedented accuracy and efficiency across all available platforms, these tools are now available in early access on all desktop platforms!

Opera recently introduced a new and innovative feature that allows you to create AI prompts, simply by highlighting text from any web page or entering them yourself. These chatbots can not only aggregate articles, but are also able to compose social media for you, as well as help you generate ideas through specialized prompts. To take advantage of this exciting opportunity, users simply have to enable the “AI Prompts” setting in the settings menu!

The company, which is owned by a Chinese consortium, integrates both ChatGPT and ChatSonic into the sidebar of its browsers. While ChatGPT can also work with text, Opera says that ChatSonic's bot — which is powered by GPT-4 — can also allow users to create images from text inputs.

“Content generated with AI is changing the game for web browsing. Our goal is to use these technologies to give our users new browsing powers – rethinking how they learn, create and research. Opera is actively expanding its AI program into AIGC for browsers, news and gaming products through its own solutions and new and existing partnerships,” Opera Chief Product Officer Joanna Czajka said in a statement.

The organization said it will unveil further AI-based capabilities in the future, using its own GPT model for the technology.

As creative AI becomes more popular, browsers are starting to consider incorporating some form of AI-powered tools. Brave made a move in this direction by introducing summerization features as part of its search engine offering. Additionally, the company revealed that it is already experimenting with additional AI-powered features for the browser itself.
