The current version of the AirTag firmware is 2.0.36, with build number 2A36 – a significant upgrade from the previous version (2.0.24 and build number 2A24e).

It’s strange that Apple released the previous 2A24e AirTags firmware back in November, but it was abruptly removed before official release . Now, a newly released update bypasses that old version.

The previous AirTag firmware was released on November 10, but we also don't know exactly what's changed with version 2.0.24. Earlier this year, Apple updated the AirTag firmware to tune out unwanted tracking soundsso people could more easily spot an unknown AirTag.

If you want to see the firmware version of your AirTag, simply open the Find My app on your iPhone, select Items in the bottom navigation bar, select your AirTag from the list, and tap its name. You'll then be able to easily see both serial number and firmware version.

Unfortunately, you can't manually trigger an AirTag update. The best way to ensure your device is up to date is to keep it within easy reach of your iPhone—updates will eventually be applied automatically after a while. It's worth remembering that these updates are sent out gradually, so don't expect to receive them right away.

AirTags are small devices that use Bluetooth to help you keep track of the things that are important to you. Each AirTag is about the size of a coin and contains an accelerometer that can detect when it has been moved. AirTags also play a sound so you can find them more easily.
