On Wednesday, Elon Musk said he expects human trials of a brain chip being developed by his healthcare technology company, Neuralink, to begin within the next six months.

at a Neuralink . Musk said that in addition to overseeing clinical trials, he plans to test one of the chips himself.
According to Reuters, Musk said they want to be "extremely careful and confident" that the device will work before putting it on people.
Neuralink says it is developing brain-chip interfaces that could restore vision , even to those born blind. They could also restore "full body functionality," including movement and verbal communication, for people with severed spinal cords.
The company said the chip's interface targeting the motor cortex could potentially be tested in humans within six months.

Although the company does not yet have FDA approval to sell its device, Musk said Wednesday that most of the necessary paperwork for human implantation has been submitted.
Neuralink is conducting animal while awaiting approval for human clinical trials. Despite past setbacks, Musk says they are making progress on their wireless brain chip product, according to the New York Times.
"At first, progress may seem painfully slow to some, but we want to remind the world that everything is being done to bring this technology to a global scale," Musk said.
