Elon Musk 's new Neuralink venture is working on brain- computer interfaces , and will be able to transmit music directly to the brain !
The head of SpaceX and Teslaannounced that he would reveal new information about the mysterious chip next month, but in recent days he has begun releasing details gradually via Twitter.
Responding to computer scientist Austin Howard, Elon Musk confirmed that Neuralink's technology will allow people to "listen to music directly from the chips."
He also said that "it could help control hormone levels and use it to our advantage (improving abilities and reasoning, relieving stress, etc.)."
Since the company's founding in 2016, we've only seen Neuralink in one major public presentation about how the technology works, in 2019.
Speaking at the event, Elon Musk said the company was working on a device that would provide a direct connection between a computer and a chip that would be inserted into the brain.
The technology could first be used to help people suffering from brain diseases like Parkinson's, but its ultimate goal is to allow humans to compete with advanced artificial intelligence.
The process of placing the Neuralink chip will be similar to Lasik laser eye surgery, according to Elon Musk.
Part of the procedure will involve a neurosurgical robot, which will attach flexible "threads" to the brain, connected to a tiny implantable computer chip.
Research detailing the device claims that just one USB-C cable will provide “full data flow” to the brain.
The company has announced 11 job openings on its website, offering positions for mechanical engineers, robotics software engineers and "histology technicians.".
"If you've solved difficult problems with phones and mobile devices, consider working at Neuralink," he wrote on Twitter.
Earlier this month, Elon Musk hinted that the Neuralink chip would be able to treat depression and addiction "retraining" the parts of the brain responsible for these conditions.
Animal trials have already been conducted, and while human trials were initially planned for later this year, details have not yet been released.
