In recent hours, reports have surfaced claiming that T-Mobile is planning to lay off unvaccinated employees on April 2nd.

Bloomberg reports that corporate employees of the well-known company who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 by April 2 will be fired. In addition, employees who remain partially vaccinated by February 21 will be placed on unpaid leave until they receive the necessary doses to be considered fully vaccinated.

T-Mobile appears to have confirmed these plans to Engadget. “T-Mobile badge-controlled offices are only accessible to those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19, and we have notified employees that we are requiring office employees to be fully vaccinated by April 2,” the company told Engadget. “We understand that this is a personal decision for some employees, but we believe taking this step will put us in a better position to protect the T-Mobile community.”

T-Mobile also reportedly told The Verge that it will make some exceptions for unvaccinated employees. These exceptions will apply “to certain roles, locations, etc.” The company’s new policy will reportedly not apply to customer service staff, technicians, and other T-Mobile employees who don’t work from its offices. However, all employees are encouraged to get the vaccine to protect themselves from the virus.
T-Mobile's decision comes after a sharp increase in cases due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19. That variant has begun to subside, but a second version is believed to be just as contagious.
