If you own a Sony PlayStation 5 and several PlayStation 4, you may be wondering if you can use them on a PS5? The answer is yes, but with certain conditions.

Sony lets you pair a PS4 controller with your PS5, but you can only use it to play PlayStation 4 games on the console itself.
To play PS5 games, you will need to use a PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. If you try to play another game, you will see a message that says “You cannot use the wireless DualShock 4 controller to play PS5 games”.
In the FAQ , Sony says: "PS5 games will require the use of the DualSense wireless controller, as they are designed to take advantage of its immersive new capabilities."
However, there is a solution. If you use Remote Play to play your games on the PS5 via streaming, through another device (such as Apple TV), you can play PS5 games with a DualShock 4 that is connected to the streaming device.

The easiest way to match the PS4 controller with the PS5 is by using a USB cable. Find a Micro-USB cable and connect one end to the DualShock 4 and the other end to a USB-A port on your PS5.
Press the PlayStation button on the DualShock 4 once to activate it and it will automatically connect to your PS5. After that, you can disconnect the USB cable and use the DualShock 4 wirelessly.
If you want to pair the DualShock 4 wirelessly, turn on the PS5 and go to Settings > General > Bluetooth Accessories, using the PS5 controller.
Next, put the DualShock 4 into pairing mode. To do this, make sure the PS4 controller is completely turned off. Then, press and hold the Share button and the PlayStation button on the DualShock 4 until the light on the top of the controller starts flashing quickly.

When you see the “DualShock 4” appear in the Bluetooth devices list, highlight it with the PS5 controller and press X.
Your PS4 controller will pair with the PS5 and you can use it to play PS4 games. Just remember you’ll need a PS5 controller for PS5 games.
