ViacomCBS: Paramount+ will be available through Apple TV Channels

As CBS All Access rebrands and becomes Paramount+, some questions have arisen regarding the fate of its integration with Apple TV Channels. A new promo video appearing to CBS All Access users confirms that Paramount+ will be available via Apple TV Channels, but the fate of the package with Apple TV+ and Showtime remains unclear.

Paramount+

As identified by 9to5Mac reader MadXD on Twitter, CBS All Access “runs” a promo video about the transition to Paramount+. The video says:

CBS All Access becomes Paramount+ on March 4. However, as CBS All Access subscribers, you don’t need to do anything. You will have full access to Paramount+ through your existing subscription on Apple TV Channels.

This confirms that existing CBS All Access subscribers will be able to continue to access content through Paramount+ with Apple TV Channels, rather than having to download a separate Paramount+ app from the App Store. It also appears that Paramount+ will be available to new subscribers through Apple TV Channels, but that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Something important to note here is that when HBO Max launched last year, the HBO Max app allowed users to subscribe with their Apple TV Channels subscription, even though the service itself wasn't available through Apple TV Channels. This may be what Paramount+ is referring to, but the "no need to do anything" wording means that users will be able to watch content directly in the TV app.

Apple TV Channels are streaming services that you can purchase and stream directly from the TV app. All billing is handled by Apple itself, and the videos are hosted by Apple. It's seen as a more elegant solution for many Apple users who don't want to download a separate app for each service.

Until the beginning of the month, Apple offered a package Apple TV+, CBS All Access and Showtime for $ 10 per month. Apple launched this package five months ago in August, and its fate is at stake as we find ourselves in the midst of the transition of the Paramount+ platform.

As we reported last week, the TV app no longer presents this package as an option for new subscribers, but current subscribers to the package still have access to the service.

It is possible that when Paramount+ launches to the public, the Apple TV+ and Showtime package will reappear for new subscribers. We are waiting and will inform you of any updates.
