Intel CEO George Davistold the Financial Times that the chipmaker believes a malicious actor stole sensitive financial information from its website. That's why Intel is waiting until after its quarterly earnings report to avoid the possibility that hackers could use the data for stock market trading.
The company confirmed that malicious actors did not compromise the corporate network.
«A chart was breached by our PR newsroom site», Davis said in his statement to the newspaper.

According to the Associated Press, an anonymous company spokesperson said that Intel was notified that the chart was released outside the company.
Currently, the company has ruled out the breach and confirmed that the incident was caused by an internal error, through a statement it issued, which says the following:
«Our earnings chart URL was unintentionally made public before we released our earnings and gave third parties access.» says Intel's statement. «As soon as we realized the situation, we immediately issued our earnings announcement. Intel's network has not been breached and we have adjusted our process to prevent this in the future.»
