Save battery by turning off 5G on iPhone

The new 5G wireless standardpromises faster speeds and easier data transfer. As time goes by, more and more devices will be able to take advantage of the new network, whether they use Android or iOS.

However, with the new features come some downsides, as the new technology can significantly drain your iPhone's battery, quickly draining its life as long as the network is on and you're using the device. Here's how to turn off 5G when you don't need it to save more battery.

  • First, open Settings on your iPhone.
  • In Settings, tap “ Mobile ”.
  • In the “ Mobile ” section, tap “ Mobile data options .”
  • In the “ Mobile Data Options ” section , tap “ Voice & Data .”
  • In “ Voice & Data ”, select “LTE” from the list to completely disable 5G.

Alternatively, you can select “5G Automatic” from this list, which will allow the iPhone to automatically turn off the network to save battery life when it’s not needed.

After that, exit Settings. The network is now disabled on your iPhone.

If you need to turn it on, just go back to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data and select “5G On” or “5G Auto.”
