Several hours after Facebook announced it would block President Donald Trump from making new posts until the day of Joe Biden's inauguration - on January 20th, former first lady Michelle Obama called on social media platforms to permanently block him from their platforms.

"Now is the time for Silicon Valley companies to stop enabling this monstrous behavior and move beyond temporarily blocking this man from their platforms and implement policies to prevent the use of technology by leaders to fuel insurgencies," Michelle Obama said in a post on Twitter on Thursday.
Her post addressed several issues, including the stark contrast between the way were treated compared to the violence faced by Black Lives Matter over the summer, and she said she prays Americans will give President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris a chance.
Until Wednesday, Trump had been given unlimited freedom on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and other social media, which allowed him to post lies and conspiracy theories throughout presidency , sometimes simply by pointing out that it was disputed information.
Facebook's move to block Trump comes a day after rioters stormed the Capitol, as reported above. In addition, Twitter temporarily blocked Trump's account on Wednesday and YouTube on Thursday imposed new restrictions on channels that post videos with false election claims.
