Windows 10 KB4556799: Problems in the new cumulative update!

Many of those affected are stating that running the 'sfc /scannow' command or the Windows Update troubleshooter does not resolve the issue.

WindowsLatest reports that some users are experiencing no sound on their PC after installing the KB4556799 update. However, some were able to fix the issue by disabling the “Enable audio enhancements” in Windows Speakers properties. To try this, interested users can right-click on the volume icon in the system repair disc and select “Open Sound settings”.

Then, they click on “Device Properties”, scroll down and click on “Additional device properties”. Next, the “Sound Settings” and they should click on the “Advanced” . In the “Advanced”, they should look for the checkbox labeled “Enable audio enhancements”, uncheck it and then test their sound and see if it works.

Reports of Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)
Some users have contacted BleepingComputer or posted elsewhere about BSOD errors after installing the KB4556799 update. For those users who are experiencing BSODs after installing the KB4556799 update, it is possible that a driver issue is causing the errors. To resolve these types of issues, users should follow these steps:

  • Uninstall update KB4556799.
  • After uninstalling the update, drivers for graphics, audio, and Intel, as well as storage devices, should be updated if possible. Those with Intel graphics can try their graphics drivers, which can now be installed universally on OEM devices.
  • Reinstall the driver.

Application, Gaming, and Performance Issues
Some users are reporting issues launching applications, playing games, or experiencing slow startups. Like BSOD, these types of issues can be driver-related, and users can try the steps listed in the previous section to see if these issues are resolved. If the issues are not resolved, users can delay installing the update and hope that the release of the May 2020 Update will provide them with a solution.
