When the economic war between America and China led to a ban on cooperation with Huawei in the US, it was obvious that the company would soon create its own operating system, in response to Android. And indeed Huawei presented HarmonyOS , which has not yet been used in devices .
However, according to new information, the HarmonyOS operating system may be released soon and with a surprise.
Huawei P40 Pro with Dual OS capability?
According to a video from the TechZG YouTube channel (watch it below), Huawei's upcoming 2020 flagship, reportedly called the Huawei P40 Pro, is likely to run Huawei's HarmonyOS.
However, as mentioned in the video, it will also run Google. This means that the smartphone will be the first mobile device in the world to come with two operating systems.
The presence of HarmonyOS and Android 10 on Huawei's upcoming smartphone will allow users to choose which of the two operating systems they want to use.
If, for example, they want to use Huawei's operating system, they can select it at boot, creating a dual-boot setup.
However, it is worth noting that users will not be able to switch back to the other operating system after booting into the operating system they chose.
It should also be clarified that the presence of Huawei EMUI and HarmonyOS are two different things. The former is based on Android, while the latter is a standalone operating system based on a microkernel that is open source.
Why the Dual OS option?
The news about Huawei's decision to include Dual OS on its phones is somewhat unexpected, especially considering that the company initially introduced HarmonyOS for IoT and smart devices, not smartphones.
However, as the complete replacement of Android by HarmonyOS will take a few years to complete, this move by the company has a logical basis.
This option seems good for users as well, as they have a choice rather than just using a completely new operating system, which may not be the best. Although the company thinks positively about its operating system, it is not certain that users will welcome it.
For those who don't know, Samsung (three years ago) patented the idea of having two operating systems on a smartphone, which would have the OS capabilities of both Android and Windows.
Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed by the company yet, so until further notice, the information about Dual OS is just rumors.
