- Reinstall or update the app: When duplicate apps appear, it might be an app bug, so it’s best to update the app first and see if the problem still persists or not. Go to Play Store and then apps & games. You can check for updates and then install them. The affected app can also be uninstalled and reinstalled. You should only download apps from the Play Store.
- Update the operating system: This is the next best thing you can do. Go to Settings and open Open System Update. The options may vary depending on the handset. Then, check if there is an update available and if you find one, you can install it. You can fix many bugs by doing this.
- Malware and Virus: A virus attack can also be the reason behind this. A possible malware can be the reason behind which someone probably wants to steal some data from smartphone by causing damage to it. You should avoid clicking on harmful app icons. It is better to immediately download an antivirus app or Malwarebytes and run a full scan of your phone. You should follow the instructions to fix them and then check if the problem is resolved or not.
- Clearing cache files: This is a very common reason reported by many users. They can even disrupt icon files and lead to duplicates appearing. To fix this, go to Settings, click on Application Manager and look for the app that is causing the most problems. Open the app and click on Clear data. Click on Clear cacheso that all data. Then close all apps and restart. Then check if the duplicate apps are there or not.
- Android Launcher Cache: This especially affects the home screen and the “App drawer”. Search for the launcher and then follow the steps given there. This will clear the data and cache files. But first, take a backup as you will lose all your settings. If you still see the duplicate icon error, you will just have to repeat the process.
- All Progressive Web Apps: Sometimes you may see a pop-up window to save a short cut. It is a progressive and should definitely not be used. These are shortcuts for the URL, but they can also “double up” over time. It is always best to delete them altogether or at least use a browser bookmark.
