Η Qualcomm ανακοίνωσε συνεργασία με τη Microsoft για την ανάπτυξη mobile hardware για το λειτουργικό σύστημα Azure Sphere Internet of Things (IoT).
Roanne Sones, Microsoft’s corporate vice president, said the new chipsets will work in conjunction with Azure and focus on connecting and securing IoT devices. Azure Sphere includes an operating system, hardware, and cloud service to protect IoT devices, which Sones believes creates an “intrinsically secure” environment. However, the executive said customers have also asked for cellular capabilities, leading to the partnership.
The new Azure Sphere chip will include hardware-level security and will come pre-installed with Azure Sphere. Additionally, the chip will be able to connect to Azure Sphere cloud services. “The solution adds to Qualcomm Technologies’ robust security technology to make it easy for manufacturers to build secure solutions and keep devices up to date over time with over a decade of security and OS built and delivered directly to every Microsoft device,” the companies added.
Galen Hunt, CEO of Microsoft Azure Sphere, said that “the new IoT chipset will illuminate a broad set of new scenarios at the edge – even the most resource-constrained .”
The Qualcomm LTE 9205 modem comes with the Azure IoT SDK. Sones says developers are a finite resource and “the more we can invest in and make developers productive, the better.”
“Microsoft has a deep history of working with the ecosystem and the developer,” the director said. “We’re focused on making that community as productive.”
In the past, Microsoft had included the Qualcomm Vision Intelligence 300 platform in the Vision AI Developer Kit for Azure IoT solutions. In related news this week, Qualcomm released a new reference design for the integration of 5G and Wi‑Fi 6 for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) home gateways.
