In an effort to attract more customers and win back some of the old ones, Apple is allowing iOS, macOS, and tvOS app developers to offer discounted subscriptions to old subscribers. Using receipt validation, developers will be able to identify subscribers who have turned off auto-renewal so they can act quickly and make them an offer in an effort to win them back before their current subscription period ends, MacRumors reported on Monday.
"Apps with auto-renewable subscriptions will soon be able to offer a discounted price to previously subscribed customers to help bring back subscribers who have canceled their subscriptions," Apple said in a blog post.
Like introductory offers for new subscribers, promotional offers for existing subscribers have been divided into three categories: Free, Pay As You Go, and Pay Up Front.
The “Free” category will allow users to access their subscription for free for a specific period of time, while the “Pay As You Go” option will allow customers to pay a promotional price for each billing period for a selected period of time, and “Pay Up Front” will allow them to pay a lump sum for a specific period of time.
Once the promotional period ends, the subscription automatically renews at the regular price, according to Apple.
Apple announced this change in the information released for the iOS 12.2 beta.
