The launch of Huawei 's operating system , HarmonyOS, was seen by many as an alternative to Android as a result of the trade war that has erupted between the US and China. The technology company said that its HarmonyOS is better than Google 's operating system and brings many features that Android does not offer.
One of the most key features of the new HarmonyOS is the Ark Compiler, a tool that allows developers to quickly port an Android app to Huawei’s operating system. Since Huawei doesn’t have its own Google app replacement suite, its operating system is necessarily based on apps . This is where the Ark Compiler comes in.
Huawei has even based its strategy on this tool to combat the ban imposed on the Chinese smartphone that prevented it from using Google services.
However, according to Chinese developers, Huawei's Ark Compiler is not functional at all at the moment. Most of them criticized the HarmonyOS sync tool, claiming that it cannot even successfully transfer its own demo sample and that Huawei has only released its operating system for publicity purposes.
Answering the question of whether the Ark Compiler meets expectations, a programmer compared it on Zhihu to a dish advertised as having earned 3 Michelin stars, but in reality it is just like cold noodles!
Another comment on Zhihu, where most of the comments are harshly critical of the tool , said that it can convert an assembly language, but that's it. It cannot allow porting applications to create executables.
When Huawei released HarmonyOS, it claimed it was ready to replace Android if needed. However, the statements of most Chinese developers suggest the opposite.
