Google: Accused of unfair competition due to a new protocol

Google

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal , the US Congress has raised concerns about Google. Specifically, the concerns relate to a new Internet Protocol that the company wants to implement . Congress is not in favor of this protocol because it believes it could give an unfair competitive advantage to advertising online.

Google has said it wants to test the new protocol, DNS-over-HTTPS (DoH), in the Chrome browser in October.

The company promises that the new protocol will offer improved protection for users' privacy through built-in encryption, preventing spoofing attacks on sites.

However, the Wall Street Journal report says that the new protocol has caused concern and annoyance among internet service providers, as many claim that Google will gain greater control over data . This means that it will reduce competition in the advertising sector.

The default unencrypted DNS allows Internet traffic to be monitored, allowing providers to see which sites their customers visit.

Based on the sites users visit, companies can create and display targeted ads to attract more customers.

The implementation of the DoH protocol in the Chrome browser, one of the most important browsers, will cause many problems for other providers.

The Chrome browser won't be the only browser to support this protocol. The protocol is already used in Mozilla (for some users in the United States).

Initially, Google plans to release the protocol to 1% of its users.

Google is not the only company facing accusations of unfair competition. Large companies such as Facebook, Apple and Amazon are being investigated by authorities, as they are accused of using unfair competitive practices, violating antitrust laws.
