Facebook: leaked data in the hands of spammers

Facebook Inc has concluded that the company's largest data theft was caused by spammers looking to make money and a government-funded group.

Last week, Facebook announced that hackers managed to steal data from 29 million accounts using an automated program that moved from one friend to the next.
Facebook, as we reported, has worked with the FBI to investigate the matter.facebook

This particular breach leaves affected users much more vulnerable to targeted phishing attacks. Of course, when we talk about targeted attacks we don't mean your computer, unless you work for a very large company, are a politician, or generally hold a very high position.

Of course, this does not mean that others should not pay due attention to the messages they receive, especially if they come from a stranger. However, with the attack on Facebook, we may observe the phenomenon of malicious messages coming from acquaintances.

Facebook first disclosed the breach in late September and said it had patched the security flaw quickly, almost immediately after its discovery on September 25.

Facebook also said it was conducting an internal investigation into the incident and last week reduced the number of affected users from its initial estimate as investigations progressed looking at activity on accounts that may have been affected.
