Hackers stole $32 million worth of crypto from Bitpoint

BitpointStoring cryptocurrencies on exchanges is not the safest solution. There have been many attacks on such platforms, resulting in the loss of millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrencies. Something similar happened to the Bitpoint Japanese. The platform was hacked and lost cryptocurrencies worth $32 million, according to CoinDesk.

Bitpoint itself made an announcement on its official website, stating that “an unauthorized outflow of cryptocurrencies has been detected.” For this reason, the exchange platform has stopped trading as well as opening new accounts, until it finds the cause and reduces the risk.

Remixpoint, the parent company of Bitpoint, provided a document with more details. The document states that 23 of the 32 million stolen belonged to customers . According to the Nikkei Asian Review, Remixpoint plans to compensate customersaffected by the attack.

Hackers stole $32 million worth of crypto from Bitpoint

There is no information on which cryptocurrencies were stolen. According to CoinDesk, the exchange platform trades five different digital currencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin and XRP.

As we mentioned above, exchanges are often targeted by hackers. However, in the last two months, the phenomenon has become more intense. A few days ago, an attack on the Singapore-based exchange Bitrue caused the loss of cryptocurrencies worth $4.5 million. In May, Binance lost about $40 million.

As for Japanese platforms, Bitpoint is not the first to be attacked. In September 2018, the Japanese platform Zaif experienced something similar. Hackers managed to steal $59 million. In January 2018, the also Japanese Coincheck lost $530 million.
