Infocyte conducted a study and the results are very worrying. The company found that small and medium-sized organizations are being targeted by hackers. In the last 90 days, about a quarter of organizations' networks fell victim Ransomware attacks to , which managed to bypass antivirus and other security software .
Other findings are as follows:
72% of Infocyte customers had multiple unwanted applications and malicious software in their environment that took more than 90 days to remove. This is a long time frame, which shows that most organizations are not prepared to quickly and effectively address threats high-priority.
According to Infocyte, in the last 90 days, small organizations have faced over 32.5 thousand threats.
The majority of threats (63%) were classified as dangerous, unwanted, or potential hacking or admin tools.
Mr. Curtis Hutcheson, CEO of Infocyte, stated that many things need to be done to enable small and medium-sized organizations to respond to modern cyber.
However, if organizations take the right steps to detect and respond to threats, security teams will be able to close gaps in their defenses and identify vulnerabilities and risksbefore they cause any damage.
According to the Infocyte report, the time an attacker spends on a victim's network is one of the most significant problems facing small organizations.
The average residence time of high-risk threats in the networks of small and medium-sized organizations is 798 days.
Infocyte also found some threats that have been active since 2009 on some old systems.
The duration of more minor threats was much longer, with an average duration of 869 days. There was also a case where the threats were active for 5-10 years.
One of the researchers said: “Infocyte’s findings should be a wake-up call for small and medium-sized businesses, who are overly confident about their security. In reality, many of them lack the resources, technology and expertise to protect themselves, let alone the data of their customers and partners. Infocyte’s results show that small and medium-sized organizations are at greater risk of breach than larger companies.”

Most small and medium-sized organizations are very vulnerable to attacks, as hackers are constantly developing techniques . But even when it comes to known threats, small organizations take a long time to deal with them.
