Fake Woolworths website is deceiving the company's customers

Woolworths

Woolworths shoppers recently received a warning that a fake company website is offering free groceries for a year.

The fake Woolworths website has more than 25,500 followers and constantly posts fake offers for free groceries.

On Sunday, the page published a post celebrating its birthday and decided to give one lucky person who shares and comments "Done" under the post by June 27th free items for a year.

The post seems to have achieved its goal and managed to gather over 1700 comments from users, who even suggested that their friends take part in the competition. Unfortunately for them, however, this offer is not valid and the page has no connection with the real Woolworths.

The page usually makes such offers for various prizes in exchange for shares and likes every few months.

However, when the contest date passes and it's time to announce a winner, the page usually posts an announcement stating that the person who won was unable to claim their prize.

Another post made on May 15, in which the page offered $500 and a "surprise gift," received over 16,000 comments and as many shares.

Some of the users who fell into the trap are trying to warn the rest of their followers, while many are also calling for the page in question to be taken down.

How can you tell if a page is fake?

A phishing scam is a type of email or notification that will try to trick you into giving up personal or financial information.

A common example is contests and prize notifications that ask you to provide personal information in order to claim the prize. Another example is asking you to click on a link to complete a survey that contains attachments.

So if you encounter such notifications and messages, it is better not to provide any personal information and not to click on any links, as if hackers manage to obtain your information, they can steal the money from your account or use it for other malicious purposes.
