Apple Inc responded on Thursday to Spotify Technology SA's complaint, saying the streaming audio service "wants all the benefits of a free app without being free."
Spotify said Wednesday that Apple is unfairly restricting its rivals from its online store in order to promote its own apps.
Apple's control of the App Store deprives consumers of the ability to see and choose other audio streaming service providers, in favor of Apple Music, which launched in 2015, Spotify added.
In response, Apple said it had approved and distributed nearly 200 app updates on behalf of the Swedish company, resulting in more than 300 million downloaded copies of the Spotify app.
"The only time we asked for adjustments was when Spotify tried to circumvent the same rules that every other app follows," Apple said in a statement.
"Spotify is free to create apps and compete with our products and platforms, and we hope they do," he added.
The Swedish company presents on a website the different ways in which Apple uses its power to make its platform an “unlevel playing field.”.
Apple refuted most of the arguments presented by Spotify on the website, “Time to Play Fair” bit.ly/2TDWtvT.
The company had also said that Apple's voice recognition system, Siri, would not allow iPhone users to play music from Spotify and that Apple had refused to allow Spotify to release an app on its smartwatch.
The California-based company responded by saying that when it tried to contact Spotify about Siri and AirPlay 2 support, the Swedish company had said it was working on it.
