Rumors have been circulating that a new generation iPod will be in the works, but in keeping with Apple's typical approach, we have no indication that the company could be working on such a device.
But it seems the 7th generation iPod is closer than we think, and there's a good chance we'll see a display with virtually no bezels, more or less like the iPhone XS.
An icon discovered in iOS 12.2 beta 4 by Jonathan Mitchell shows the possible design of the upcoming iPod, without a visible home button. Interestingly, the device doesn't appear to have a notch either, so there's a chance Apple could be giving up some features over the iPhone.
Details on a potential launch date for the new generation iPod touch are not available at this time, but Apple will hold a new event on March 25th at its headquarters. Many speculate that this is the right time for Apple to announce the new iPod, especially since the company usually uses its September event exclusively to unveil new iPhones.
It is unnecessary to tell you to take the information with a grain of salt, especially since there are indications that it could be false.
For example, the iPod touch logo doesn't appear to be centered, which would be an unexpected design accident by Apple given the attention Apple pays to such details.
Additionally, the lack of modern features like Face ID and the notch raises questions about Apple's approach to the new iPod, especially since Cupertino is so eager to bring its facial recognition system to as many devices as possible.
Expect more relevant information in the coming weeks as we approach the device's potential release date.
