Back in 2017, Google introduced an “Editors’ Choice” section to the Play Store to help users discover more on their own. In addition to the addition of Android lists, the Play Store also added stories and collections for apps. Google is now promoting this content with notifications from the Play Store.

In recent days, some users have received a notification from the Google Play Store, which advertised “the top five apps ” along with a description of “Snap picture-perfect photos every time” and a “Learn more” button. When someone taps the notification, it immediately opens the Google Play story for photo editing apps. It should be noted that this feature has been around since March 2018 with the Editor’s Choice section that includes some new stories published in December.

The basic format for stories on the Play Store includes a cover image and a description followed by a list of apps. Each card includes basic details about the app, such as ratings, downloads, and screenshots and videos. There is a “Why we love this” list with a long paragraph available above the “More Info” and “Install” buttons. There is also a “You might also like this” button at the top of this page that refers to other apps.

For Google, the goal is for users to download more apps and for developers to benefit by creating more and more new apps. In addition to the notification system, the story will also appear on the Play Store notification screen. Here, users will be able to delete the story and return to previous messages. This seems to be a recent addition to Google Play and was implemented, because last week, the app store asked users if they wanted additional features and new upgrades. In turn, Google brought new features, as it constantly attempts to improve the user experience!
