Verizon, one of the largest companies in the video game streaming space, has announced that it will launch a new service that will compete with those of Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Sony, Electronic Arts and others.
According to a report from the company, Verizon will launch a game-streaming service called Verizon Gaming, and its platform has already been tested with the Nvidia Shield device. In fact, in the future, the service will be available for Android smartphones and will support an Xbox One controller that will connect wirelessly to the Android device or Shield.
What's most impressive is that more than 135 games are running the current test that the experts are reviewing, including Fortnite, Red Dead Redemption II, God of War, Battlefield V and many more. The current test period focuses on making the experience as smooth as possible. Of course, it's still too early to know anything about the release date or the cost of the new service.
What is certain is that game streaming has begun to develop rapidly and large companies such as Microsoft, Sony, Amazon and EA Games are constantly investing in improving their sources and services in this sector.
The main advantage of game streaming is that you don't need expensive and powerful hardware to play games at home or on the go. Instead, streamed games run on hardware in data centers and then work on any device the user has. Of course, this doesn't mean that other types of games based on consoles like Xbox and Playstation will disappear, because internet speeds are not the same everywhere in the world.
Streaming is becoming more and more popular, having already become a staple in movies, TV, and music. It's only a matter of time before the same happens in gaming. While no details have been released by Verizon, we're eagerly awaiting more details on the launch date of the new service.
