Linux Mint 19.1 “Tessa” is finally released

MintThe developers of Linux Mint, one of the most user-friendly open source distributions, have just released the new Linux Mint 19.1. Codenamed Tessa, this operating system will remain supported until 2023.

For those who don't know, Linux Mint is a popular Linux, based on Ubuntu, that aims to make the transition from the Windows world to Linux much easier. Mint 19.1 offers a near-perfect desktop experience and also adds some new features.

The latest version, which is based on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, has three options: MATE, Xfce, and Cinnamon. It's worth noting that support for the KDE desktop environment was only released last year.

Speaking of new features, the popular Cinnamon edition runs the Cinnamon 4.0 desktop environment. It comes with a new panel layout and a new workflow. When you boot your system for the first time, you will be asked if you want to proceed with the new layout.

The Nemo file manager has been further improved to be more efficient than before. It can now also be configured to display thumbnails and file creation times for supported file types.

From Update Manager, you can now take a look at the list of core Linux kernels and remove the ones you don’t use. There have also been changes to the “Software Sources” app. It now uses an XApp sidebar and a header bar.

Many other improvements have also come to different XApps, including Xreader, Xed, LibXApp, etc.
