Avast antivirus is being blamed by some users for crashes and blue screens during the latest major Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

A related and in-depth description of the problem was posted on Reddit and states in short that most systems experiencing the same unpleasant symptoms when upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update had Avast antivirus installed.
This could perhaps be evidence that a recent Avast update could have created compatibility issues with Windows 10 April 2018 Update, causing errors in the operating system, which users can only resolve by completely reinstalling Windows.
Systems running Avast antivirus show three boot options after upgrading to Windows 10 April 2018 Update. Windows Rollback and Windows 10 on Volume appear twice. While the first option triggers a reboot, the other two attempt to complete the boot, only to end up with a blank, black desktop with no icons and a loading error message on the desktop.
Reddit user gcdrm, who says he works at a small computer repair shop, revealed that several systems upgraded on May 20 and 21 have experienced the same issues.
“So far, the only solution we’ve found is to reinstall Windows,” they said. “It seems like everyone who has fallen victim to this issue has been using Avast Antivirus. However, this issue has only occurred on systems that attempted the 1803 upgrade in the last two days. This implies that a very recent Avast update is interfering with the upgrade process. It appears that the read/write permissions are corrupted.”
While neither Microsoft nor Avast acknowledged the issue, Reddit users are recommending that users who are offered the Windows 10 April 2018 Update uninstall Avast antivirus before starting the process. No action is required for users who have already successfully completed the upgrade.
