BitTorrent recently launched uTorrent Web, a new torrent that promises to deliver the power of the ultra-popular uTorrent to the browser.
Despite being called uTorrent Web, it still needs to be downloaded and installed on your computer, even though it runs exclusively in the browser.
With this approach, BitTorrent hopes that its application could be used more easily by beginners, as no further adjustments to the application will be needed.
“ Our vision for μTorrent Web was to create a torrent with fast playback capability and simplicity at its core”, said Justin Knoll.
The uTorrent Web application is currently available exclusively on Windows, and has been in beta for a long time. It will continue to be offered alongside the existing torrent, which will be converted back to uTοrrent Classic.
Compatible with the majority of browsers on the market, uTorrent Web offers a very simple interface that allows you to easily add torrents to your computer, using a magnet link from the web or with the built-in internet search engine.
Searching the web for torrents, however, takes you to Google, so it won't immediately provide you with a list of files to add.
The settings screen is basic and includes the essential options you need for a BitTorrent client program, such as language, the default download folder, file association, and the bandwidth manager. You can also select uTorrent Web as the default BitTorrent program.
Just like the classic version of the application, uTorrent Web can do things like playing audio and video while the files continue to download, so BitTorrent tried to preserve the original functionality but move it from the desktop to the browser.
