Microsoft has decided to discontinue Skype's Highlight feature, an option the company added in an effort to give its messaging platform a more social touch.
More of a competitor to Snapchat Stories, Skype Highlights didn't impress, and although Microsoft says the reason for the discontinuation is to simplify the use of the app, the reason is most likely its small userbase.
In an announcement this week, Microsoft explains that Highlights will continue to be available until September 30th, after which they will stop forever.
“We’ve listened to your feedback and taken a step to simplify Skype. With this approach, you’ll see that we’ve removed the Highlights feature. We’ve now focused on Chats, Calls and Contacts, making it even easier for you to access Skype. The Highlights you’ve posted will be available to view or download until September 30, 2018 through your settings,” the company said.
Microsoft says it is currently working on improving Skype not only by removing useless features, but also by adding new ones, so the latest versions of the application will bring several improvements in this regard.
For example, Microsoft has redesigned the way you add a reaction to a message. The company says a new messaging experience is being rolled out for all users worldwide.
Microsoft has worked hard to make Skype a more widely used messaging service not only on desktop but also on mobile, with Android and iOS upgrading to new changes with community reactions being mixed.
The makeover, however, continues with each new update, and Microsoft promises that it “listens and takes action” every time a new version is released. Highlights are living proof that the company is listening!
