All data will be automatically transferred to Teams, without the need to create another account. Users will also have the option to data their. The data that will be exported will include photos and chat history. Microsoft has also created a tool to easily view existing Skype chat history if someone doesn't want to move to Teams.

Skype will remain active until May 5, so existing users will have about 60 days to decide whether they want to switch to Microsoft Teams or export their data.

The move to Microsoft Teams will keep Skype group chats intact for the 60 days, and Microsoft will also maintain interoperability. This means users will be able to send messages to contacts in Teams and those messages will be delivered to friends who are still using Skype.

However, with the move to Microsoft Teams, a piece of Skype will disappear. Microsoft is removing the telephony features that allow calls to domestic or international numbers or mobile phones.

Existing Skype subscription users will be able to use their Skype credits and subscriptions on Microsoft Teams until the end of their next renewal period, but this feature will not be available to new users. Existing Skype Number users will also need to port their number to another provider, as Microsoft no longer supports it either.

Skype Dial Pad will be part of Microsoft Teams temporarily for existing credits and subscriptions, but Microsoft will not be offering calling plans to Teams consumers.

Skype and its above features were once very useful, but technology has evolved significantly and users have turned to more innovative applications and methods of communication. Over the past decade, services like FaceTime, Messenger, and WhatsApp have made communication simpler and easier than ever, making it difficult for Microsoft to compete with them through Skype.

This was particularly evident in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, when consumers flocked to Zoom instead of Skype. Skype's user base has not shrunk but has remained stable.

Microsoft will focus more on Teams for consumers, after launching the personal version in 2020. At the time, Microsoft said that Skype was still very important to the company, but in recent years it seemed that the app was headed for retirement. In December, Microsoft discontinued Skype credits and phone numbers in favor of subscriptions, another sign that the end was coming.

The growing popularity and acceptance of Microsoft Teams as a collaboration and communication in businesses has led Microsoft to focus more on this platform for everyday users as well. Teams offers not only video calling and chat capabilities , but also tools for document collaboration and project management, making it a more complete solution than Skype.

Skype's technology infrastructure, developed several years ago, cannot compete with modern demands for security, connectivity, and integration with other services. Microsoft Teams, on the other hand, is designed to meet these demands, offering a more secure and flexible platform.

According to the company, the withdrawal of Skype will not lead to job cuts. Employees will be engaged in other tasks.
