Fipsy FPGA development board for beginners available via Kickstarter

beginnersProgrammer and designer Matthew Zamora took to Kickstarter this week to launch his new FPGA breakout board for beginners, called Fipsy. Available via Kickstarter with donations starting at just $10 or £7, the board offers an affordable FPGA that would normally cost around $60. Designed specifically for beginners, FPGAs, or Field Programmable Gate Arrays, allow a designer to program logic circuits at the hardware level, at a more affordable price point.

Using this method can significantly speed up prototyping or enable massively parallel operations, Matthew explains. FGPAs are described as a system designer's magic black bag, in that they can be dynamically reconfigured to do any arbitrary type of digital processing.

Features of the Fipsy FPGA board include a very low price point for an entry-level FPGA board, great for rapid prototyping, breadboard compatible design, uses only free or open source design tools, and is supported by many examples and guides from a DIY community.
