There are several different Raspberry Pi models, which are constantly evolving: the new ones are even better.
For example, the brand new Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ may have a confusing name, but it's clearly an upgrade over 2016's Raspberry Pi 3 Model B.
The new mini PC has a slightly faster 1.4GHz quad-core processor, Bluetooth 4.2 (an upgrade from 4.1), and dual-band Wi-Fi. We should be especially excited about the Wi-Fi upgrade, as we'll no longer have to use a 2.4GHz test network to work with the Raspberry Pi and many other IoT devices.
Speaking of the Internet of Things, the Pi's Wi-Fi has a "certificate of compliance," meaning that if developers use this Pi hardware in their final product, they won't have as much trouble getting the Wi-Fi certified by regulators. Also, having dual-band Wi-Fi on a Raspberry Pi could be a good sign that the dominance of 2.4GHz for IoT terrorism is coming to an end.
Overall, the new Pi is pretty similar to its predecessor, especially when it comes to connectors and form factor – which means it should work well with existing Pi cases and accessories. Also, the price is still the same: at $35, as always.
