HP has started accepting pre-orders for its first Always Connected PC running Windows 10 on a Snapdragon developed by Qualcomm.
Windows 10 on ARM was announced in late 2017 and is expected to bring several new devices to market this spring, with HP being one of the first to do so. The company is now taking pre-orders for the Envy x2, with shipments starting in early March.
The device costs $999 in the United States and is powered by the Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. The 12.3-inch display comes with touch support, so you can take advantage of Windows 10 features developed specifically for this purpose, including Windows Ink.
Additionally, the laptop has 128GB of storage, as well as a USB 3.1 Type-C port and a nano-SIM slot for 4G connectivity on the go. You also get three microphones, front and rear cameras, and Bang & Olufsen stereo speakers.
HP says the Envy x2 offers up to 22 hours of battery life per charge, and that's essentially one of the key benefits of Always Connected PCs.
Microsoft has been planning for some time to bring Windows 10 to ARM devices, providing amazing battery life, with many claiming that it can last up to a month in standby mode. Of course, performance depends on a number of factors, such as the software running on each computer, but even so, Always Connected PCs offer even better battery life than a typical laptop.
More Windows 10 on ARM devices are coming in the coming weeks and months with Microsoft very committed to its project.
