Qualcomm today announced several new products that will revolutionize the VR and AI markets, as well as the audio production community and the PC industry.
The telecommunications equipment company is today introducing a new artificial intelligence (AI) engine designed to power AI capabilities on its select Qualcomm Snapdragon, suggesting that upcoming smart devices could be even smarter and more environmentally friendly.
The list includes smartphones from OnePlus, Motorola, Xiaomi, ASUS, Vivo, OPPO, ZTE, Nubia, Blackshark, and Smartisan, which are powered by Google's Android mobile operating system that runs on top of the Linux kernel. Manufacturers will be able to use Qualcomm's AI engine to accelerate AI applications on their devices.
“On-device AI requires multiple hardware architectures, software tools and frameworks to meet the programming and performance requirements for the myriad of AI-powered functions and applications this year,” said Gary Brotman, director of product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.
Qualcomm's new AI platform promises to support the Android Neural Networks API, allowing developers to run AI algorithms directly on the Hexagon Vector Processor with the Hexagon Neural Network (NN) library, and integrates the Snapdragon Neural Processing Engine (NPE) software framework.
Qualcomm also recently announced a new Virtual Reality (VR) platform based on the powerful Snapdragon 845 chip, which will be used in flagship smartphones like Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S9 series. With this, the company hopes to power next-generation VR experiences on mobile devices.
