Microsoft loves Linux: Skype released as Snap on Ubuntu, Linux Mint

Microsoft 's commitment to Linux is only getting stronger as, after working with the open source community to improve Skype, the company is now releasing the application as a quick tool.

With immediate support, Skype can be easily installed on Linux Mint, Manjaro, Debian, Arch Linux, OpenSuSE, Solus and Ubuntu, and users can receive automatic updates whenever new releases are ready.

This helps Microsoft ensure that the latest improvements are always available to all Linux users, and judging by how quickly the ecosystem is growing since the 2016 launch, the software giant made the right move.Skype

Microsoft did not miss the opportunity to praise Skype for Linux, stating in a press release published together with Canonical that the purpose of this decision was to make the new features available to users as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Canonical, which has become a close partner of Microsoft over the past two years, has endorsed Microsoft's decision to release Skype as a Snap, because this puts the Linux user as a priority.

We should note that Skype underwent a significant overhaul in 2017 and was considerably improved on the majority of platforms as Microsoft moved to a new infrastructure, the purpose of which is to transform the service from a VoIP solution into a more advanced messaging application that is available on multiple platforms.

Given the increasing focus on Linux, Microsoft could not help but have a particular weakness on Linux, which were once considered “cancer” by many.
