The new “Smart Invert” feature in iOS 11 is a dark screen mode, but smarter.

For some time, Apple has been trying to improve the strain on our eyes when looking at screens at night, with the “grayscale mode” feature in iOS 8 and “Night Shift” in iOS 9. Smart Invert, iOS 11’s eye-friendly feature, inverts some colors but leaves images, videos, and some apps untouched, aiming to reduce the brightness of your screen without creating the really weird blackout we saw with previous versions of the feature.
Here's how you can enable it:
- Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Screen Conversions.
- Toggle "Smart Invert" to "On".
If you're a traditionalist, you can continue to use “Classic Invert,” which will invert all the colors on your screen.
If you really like Smart Invert, you can create a handy shortcut to quickly toggle it.
- Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut.
- Select "Smart Invert Colors".
Now, when you triple-tap the Home button, you can turn Smart Invert on or off.
This is it! Try it at night and your eyes will thank you.
