The TVAddons, a leading library for unofficial Kodi add-ons, disappeared mysteriously. The website's domains appear unresponsive and the DNS records seem to not exist. It speculates why and how all this happened, but given the lawsuit the service faced last week, some fear the worst.
Last week we broke the news that the TVAddons library was being sued by a Texas federal court.
Since then, the piracy community of Kodi has been in turmoil. Several popular Kodi addons have decided to shut down, and now TVAddons itself appears to have a problem.
TVAddons is one of the largest repositories of Kodi add-ons, many of which allow users to watch pirated content. The site had grown massively in recent years, reporting 40 million unique visitors in March alone.
Since yesterday, however, these millions of users can no longer access the website. Without warning or any public explanation, the domain name TVAddons stopped responding. The DNS entries appear to have been removed, meaning that the name and the page are no longer accessible to the public.
Just a few hours ago, the TVAddons page on Facebook disappeared completely.
TVAddons listed 1,500 different add-ons, among which was the Exodus addon that was maintained by the community and was one of the most popular.
It may be early to draw conclusions about the future of Kodi addons as we knew them, but everything shows that things have become very difficult for the communities that support them. Of course, no one can make predictions because our torrent community has proven that even though many do not want its operation, it continues to exist…
Update: Exodus appears to be working for now, although many of the streaming distribution sources don't seem to be showing up.
